List of legions modified
modificaI've corrected the list of legions which took part in Trajan's Dacian Wars. XXI Rapax didn't, II Traiana Fortis did. See their articles on Wikipedia. --Aquiles77 (msg) 21:16, 21 dic 2014 (CET)
- Many thanks, but it's non sure. Please you should control Parker "Roman legions". Vale! --Cri stiano64 (alla taberna del Civis Romanus Christianus) 22:46, 21 dic 2014 (CET)
- What's wrong according to you? See Dando-Collins' "Legions of Rome" And Le Bohec's "Les légions de Rome sous le Haut-Empire" on Rapax and its destruction during Domitian's rule. It's also well attested that II Traiana took part alongside XXX Ulpia Victrix in the Second Dacian War (again the same sources). Why did you delete II Traiana Fortis? --Aquiles77 (msg) 01:12, 22 dic 2014 (CET)
- I've put II Traiana, XXX Ulpia and XXI Rapax (not sure for all, it was destroyed in 92; perhaps it was V Alaudae). Parker explains very well when end why the legio XXX Ulpia was created (there were 29 other legions... and Trajan wanted to create the the thirtieth; one of these was XXI Rapax if you make an account) and than, when a new legion was destroyed o disband (legio XXI Rapax, perhaps in 101-102), he created a second legio (legio II Traiana). Vale! --Cristiano64 (alla taberna del Civis Romanus Christianus) 07:56, 22 dic 2014 (CET)
- You mention only one source (Parker) to justify that XXI Rapax still existed at the beginning of Trajan's Dacian Wars. Obviously that isn't the most common opinion as most scholars (Dando-Collins' "Legions of Rome: The definitive history of every Roman legion", F. Bérard's “La legion XXIe Rapax” in Le Bohec and Wolff, eds. "Les légions de Rome sous le Haut-Empire", 1:56–57, Julian Bennet's "Trajan, Optimus Princeps: A Life and Times" p.101, Wheeler's "Rome’s Dacian Wars: Domitian, Trajan, and Strategy on the Danube, Part II" in The Journal of Military History 75: 191–219...) think Rapax is actually the legion which Suetonius refers to in Domitian 6.1 (Expeditiones partim sponte suscepit, partim necessario: sponte in Chattos, necessario unam in Sarmatas legione cum legato simul caesa). At least, if you don't trust any other source apart from Parker, you should say in the article that the participation of legio XXI Rapax in Trajan's Dacian Wars is very controversial, although I still think its name shouldn't be in the list... --Aquiles77 (msg) 18:04, 22 dic 2014 (CET)
- It's the most logical ;-) Think about legio IX... Where and when was it destroyed? In Britain? In Giudea (132-135)? Against Parthi in 161? It's necessary to put every theory. Parker is non probably the only one. Also I think so :-)))))) And perhaps you... now that I've illustrated this new theory :-)))) Best regards and Merry Christmas. --Cristiano64 (alla taberna del Civis Romanus Christianus) 19:05, 22 dic 2014 (CET)
- Mmmm new theory :)?" H. M. D. PARKER, The Roman Legions: Oxford, Clarendon. Press (1928)" doesn't sound new to me :)) Anyway, I guess this is a standoff. Grazie!!! Tanti auguri!! (Sorry, my Italian is awful ) :))) --Aquiles77 (msg) 12:46, 23 dic 2014 (CET)
